Deep within the Strider, the party rests among statues of Aurelia I's original adventuring party, then pushes into the heart's chamber — a vast room of glowing conduit vats and a giant mechanical humanoid heart. A complex boss fight ensues against the conduit nodes, swarms of hivelings, and Vrax'leth the heart thief spider, culminating in the party shattering every conduit and killing the spider. Johnny then awakens the ancient heart — the Machine God — with a natural-20 Diplomacy, forging an alliance to purge the remaining Herald cultists from the Strider.
- The party rests at the base of the staircase amid statues of Aurelia I's original adventuring party. Argyle recognizes Coulombe Honorsworn (founder of the Scale) in one statue and notes a familial resemblance to his grandmother. They build a crude lean-to from fallen masonry and set watch.
- Argyle treats Johnny's Avernal Fever during the rest. Anzu's watch picks up irregular mechanical sounds from deeper in; Benny's watch sees phantom movement but nothing attacks. Johnny successfully shakes off the disease with Argyle's help (+2 circumstance bonus).
- Othello (Anzu's familiar) scouts ahead and Anzu peers through, describing a large chamber: four vats of red liquid with floating runes, a mechanical orb on a cart in the center, and a giant mecha humanoid — the heart — suspended at the far end. Argyle casts Augury on breaking the heart and gets a positive feeling.
- The party buffs up (Bless, Dirge of Doom, Malediction/Bane, Haste on Benny) and enters the chamber. With a high perception check Argyle spots a tiny blue-purple-yellow spider (Vrax'leth, the heart thief) floating inside one of the conduit tubes just before it disappears into the piping.
- Complex boss fight: four conduit nodes (Alpha–Delta) each have different functions — one powers the heart's energy beam (which one-shot-kills hivelings caught in its zone), one shoots webbing that grabs characters, one spawns hivelings, one inflicts a mental fear effect. Vrax'leth hides in the tubes, moves between them via the central orb, and attacks. The party systematically destroys the conduits (weak to bludgeoning, have hardness) and the central orb.
- Benny shatters the final conduit tube and kills Vrax'leth, who is flushed out with the orange liquid. The party destroys the central orb device, ending the combat. Argyle spends much of the fight repeatedly escaping web grabs.
- Johnny approaches the dormant heart and rolls a natural 20 Diplomacy (34 total). The heart awakens and speaks in a grinding metal voice, identifying itself as the Machine God — an ancient heart from Aurelia I's era, once the eyes and ears of her original party. It reveals it was adrift on the horizon, trapped by the false god Herald, whose followers (spiders and others) took over the Strider and changed its inhabitants.
- The party strikes an accord with the Machine God: it will aid them (and connect to their heart network) if they kill the remaining Herald followers within the Strider. Two groups remain — one actively growing and converting people on the far side of the Strider (near where Anzu's sister is), and one dormant that would activate when the Strider reaches its destination.
- The Machine God gifts the party a Greater Jolt Coil (spell heart: electric arc + lightning bolt, electricity resistance 3 on armor, +1d6 electric on weapon after casting electricity spells) and Vrax'leth's corpse (can be fashioned into a Usurper's Crown: +1 item bonus to mental saves, 1/day change a failed mental save to a success, 500 gp).
- The party reaches level 8. They discuss naming their alliance 'The Coalition' with a Ki-Rin symbol. Jorge/Argyle proposes using Ring of Truth to vet allies next session. Discussion of secret level-up mechanics ends with everyone sending level 8 sheets to the GM by Sunday.
